Fascinate Me Blog

Fascinate Me offer three sizes of bandeau birdcage veils and we understand that choosing the right size may seem confusing.  When deciding which size to buy there are two factors that should be taken into consideration: (1) the way you're planning on wearing your bandeau birdcage veil and (2) the size of your head.

First, decide how you'd like to wear your bandeau birdcage veil on your wedding day.  You can either wear it diagonally (so that the veil covers one eye or is worn over your hair) or straight (so that the veil covers both eyes).

Diagonal                                Straight

Second, determine the length you'll need to accommodate your style, head, and hairstyle.  Choose two points in your hair where you will position the bandeau veil's combs and use a tape measure to measure that length.  If you want to wear your bandeau birdcage veil diagonally, then pick a location near one ear and the second location higher on your head.  If you want to wear your bandeau birdcage veil straight, then measure from ear to ear.  When measuring be sure to guide the tape over the contours of your face or hair.  Additionally, if you'd prefer to have the veil fit looser over your face, be sure to add at least 2 inches to the length that you measure.

As a reference, the mannequin's head measures approx 10" from ear to ear. Keep in mind, however, that mannequin heads measure smaller than an average human head.

We hope this helps you make your decision!

We have bandeau veils available in three sizes:

Small (12"), Medium (14"), and Large (17")

Even though I'm knocking on the door of two full years of marital bliss, I still LOVE looking at wedding pictures.  Why?  Because I believe that weddings showcase the bride and groom's personal style.  Speaking of personal style, one of my first custom fascinator orders was for the fabulously chic and stunning bride shown in the pictures below.  Mrs. Jackie knew she wanted a fascinator that not only showcased her favorite color (pink!) but also coordinated with her amazing bridal gown.  How much do you love her bridal style?

If you're inspired by Mrs. Jackie and have a custom design in mind, click HERE for details on how to place an order!  I'd love to help you create the fascinator of your dreams :)

Fascinators are a fabulous way to complete your wedding day look; wear them in your hair, accessorize your bridal party, or embellish your wedding gown.  I recently received these gorgeous wedding photos from my client's photographer Daniel Moyer who did an amazing job of capturing Mrs. Tara's intimate garden wedding.  I just had to share the way Mrs. Tara chose to finish the customization of her wedding gown by clipping our Lace & Feather Daffodil Fascinator to the empire waist--tres chic!  Enjoy the eye candy!

There are a variety of birdcage veil styles to choose from and it doesn't end there; you also have options when it comes to how you're going to wear it.  Decisions, decisions!  In this post I'd like discuss the two main ways to wear a bandeau birdcage veil.  These veils are (fittingly) bands of birdcage veiling with combs, clips, or bobby pins on both sides.  The two points of attachments (my bandeau birdcage veils come with 3-prong combs on both sides) offer lots of flexibility for placement.

There are two basic ways to wear your bandeau birdcage veil: Straight or Angled.  Please note that however you choose to wear your bandeau birdcage veil, it is important to have bobby pins on hand to (1) secure your combs in place and/or (2) customize your fit (e.g. use bobby pins to raise or lower the height of the veil so that it's farther or closer to your face).

The mannequin is modeling Fascinate Me's 13" bandeau birdcage veil, available for $18 + shipping.

  • In the pictures above, the mannequin is wearing the veil straight.  Although I placed it so that it covers her nose, your basic 9" tall bandeau veil can also cover your entire face, just your eyes, or even just your forehead.  It's all up to you!  You may choose to also accent your birdcage veil with either a round or fan shape feather or fabric fascinator.  The symmetry of this style gives you lots of flexibility in choosing a fascinator shape (Read HERE for a discussion of fascinator options).  I would suggest placement of a fascinator (in this case) on your less flattering side because, let's face it, the other side is your "good side" for a reason, right? ;)

  • In the pictures above, the mannequin is wearing the veil at an angle.  As previously discussed, you also have the option here to cover down to your nose, just your eyes, or just your forehead--either way this style looks fabulous!  If you have side-swept bangs you may find it easier to wear your bandeau birdcage veil angled in the same direction of your hair, so that one comb is at or near the point where you part your hair (as shown).  If you choose to wear a fascinator with your angled veil, I would suggest placing the fascinator on the higher side, either on or very near to the higher comb.  The fascinator shape that I prefer in this case is a large/oversized and/or round fascinator because the asymmetry of this style coordinates well with a statement pieces.

I hope this little bit of information helps!  Happy planning and early congrats!

If you're reading this article, then congratulations on your upcoming wedding!  Trying to design your big day can be a daunting task; not only do you have to worry about flowers and stationery but you also have to figure out how to accessorize your wedding day look--after all, it will be immortalized in your photos!  No pressure, right?  Well, fret not. My goal for you after reading this article is that you'll be one step closer to answering the question: how do I choose a fascinator shape?

For each fascinator shape I give several options, each of which are hyperlinked to the page on which you can purchase it.  This is meant to be a starting point for your decision making.

Round Fascinators:  Round fascinators coordinate well with most hairstyles: traditional updos, half up/half down hairstyles, side ponytails or buns, and if you decide to wear your hair all down.  You may choose to wear them alone, with a birdcage veil, or even as a veil replacement after you take off your long traditional veil after the ceremony.

Fan or Half-Circle Fascinators:  Fan fascinators are easy to place and, as with round fascinators, can also be worn with nearly every hairstyle.  They come in a variety of styles and also offer the option to have longer free flowing feathers for an added statement.

Oversized Fascinators:  These fascinators also come in a variety of sizes and are perfect for the bride that wants to turn heads.  Several of my oversized fascinators include birdcage veiling in the design so they can also double as a veil replacement, whether it's just for your reception or for your entire wedding day.  I design my fascinators in both round and fan shapes so that you can have versatility when choosing your hairstyle.

Double Fascinators:  These fascinators are perfect for traditional updos as well as side ponytails or buns.  I design my double fascinators with lots of volume--a style that especially compliments and offsets the volume at the bottom of mermaid and trumpet gowns.

Headbands and Crystal Brooch Combs:  I design these pieces specifically for traditional brides who prefer to make a statement through sparkly hair accessories.  These pieces are beautiful and understated...a la Audrey Hepburn :)
